My son is the child who still sleeps with a pacifier (or chuchette)-and I stress, SLEEPS with it only. I do not allow him to have it any other place but his bed. (OK ,I take it back, if the very occasional nap time is in the car, he can have it)
Today, I couldn't figure out why he wasn't falling asleep during nap time. 1 hour became two, so I decided to go up there and investigate. He had thrown everything out of his crib, and was smiling.
Maybe he's not tired? I thought.
Not my son, he's the kind of kid who requires at least two hours of nap, and 11 hours of sleep at night.
After finding his two pacifiers on the floor, I figured he had bitten through them. When he's teething, he bites on them with all his might to relieve the pressure and bites holes in them, "breaking" them.
I snagged the reserve one in the cabinet, and he put it in his mouth, and he fell fast asleep.
I know it's a "crutch", but if it gets him to sleep, would it really be a crime if Vaughn had a pacifier until he's say...18?

I'm slowly trying to break the habit. Massimo however would have shouted from the rooftops for it if he didn't have it in his crib. Yesterday we went on a walk and I purposely did not bring one. He whined for about 5 minutes and then happily enjoyed the rest of the walk. I don't think its such a bad thing, I still sleep with a blanket..okay its a allergen free white down conforter, but a security thing none the less.
There is no such thing as a perfect parent who does everything perfectly. Every child probably does at least one thing he or she "shouldn't" according to the AAP, Babycenter, and the judgmental moms at the playground. In the end, you pick your battles based on what you can tolerate within your family dynamic. His mild chuchette habit seems fairly innocuous -- he barely needs it. I suppose my only worry would be whether it may cost you in orthodontia bills down the road.
Vaughn only uses as a tool to help him fall asleep.
I have to have a cup of tea (sometimes I don't take more than a few sips)and read, at least, a paragraph in my book to easily fall asleep.
Given that he has been having bouts of "toddler frustration" I would indulge him this comfort. I'm excited that he was smiling when you peeked in to see him - that's a step forward.
I'll bet that by the time he starts preschool, he won't need it anymore.
I honestly don't think that he uses it enough to cause much damage to his teeth, besides, chances are, since both of you wore braces, both of the twins will have to have some level of orthodontia anyway.
The pacifier is better than thumb sucking, or avery's finger sucking. At least she dosen't sleep with her fingers in her mouth. she only uses them to fall asleep. thankfully rick has great dental coverage, and they most definatly will need braces like we did.
maybe when he's three, a little closer to the age of reason, we can give the chuchette to baby hess? I saw that tactic on jon and kate +8. we'll see, we're supposed to give the diapers to him when he comes (ha ha). the both pee peed on the potty today, but some days are better than others. whatever!

We'll see if El Dos wants the paci. Otto didn't really care too much for them. He was a stickler for the real thing and didn't get down with bottles or pacis.
I never thought about the finger-sucking, but even that is so occasional for Avery. She always seems to understand when it's allowed and not allowed.
I totally have a paci again... the damn Hypnobabies tracks! If I don't listen to them and let them lull me to sleep, I wake up in the middle of the night.
Speaking of, found out today why Otto kept waking up: the last of his baby teeth has erupted. I asked him, "Does your mouth hurt you?" "YES!" he said! I asked him, "Let Mama see," and he opened his mouth and pointed to show me. I think it's finally almost out.
yeah, that was why vaughn was waking so early for a while. i think he's done. avery has yeat to cut any of her molars, but they are a bruing
